Floating above the clear waters of Karimun Jawa, the Pusaran Ocean Deck by RAD+ar is a masterclass in light-touch, climate-responsive design. Built entirely from reclaimed ironwood, the deck was carefully constructed to avoid disturbing the delicate coral ecosystem below. Its spiraling form mimics the motion of ocean currents, creating a soft, organic footprint that blends architecture with the surrounding seascape.

The design is not just visually poetic—it’s deeply functional. The swirling layout divides the deck into multiple zones for leisure, prayer, and marine activities, offering a flexible space for visitors to engage with the ocean at their own pace. One zone includes a Qibla-facing prayer deck, while others provide shaded rest areas, diving points, and uninterrupted sea views. This layout naturally channels wind and light, creating a comfortable microclimate throughout the structure without the need for artificial cooling.

What makes the Pusaran deck truly stand out is its ability to combine local craftsmanship, sustainable materials, and fluid design into a space that feels both sacred and social. It’s a living example of how architecture can support eco-tourism by responding to nature—not overpowering it—and creating meaningful experiences in the process.
